Have you ever wondered what it’s like to live with a facial difference and hearing loss? Sam’s student presentations take the group on a journey through his life, sharing with them his challenges as well as finding humor in everyday situations. Sam was born with Treacher Collins syndrome, a craniofacial anomalie and has undergone seven surgeries. Growing up with a facial difference and hearing loss, coupled with his experience as a teacher, Sam has great insight as how to approach these topics with students. His presentations provide students with an understanding of hearing loss, assistive technologies and how everyone can overcome challenges. The presentations are hands on as Sam shares with his audience what his hearing aid looks like, how it works, and engages the audience in a discussion about examples of other assistive technologies. These inspiring presentations help to build awareness and understanding of differences to students of all ages.
